The lens is a dark blackout polarized base lens with a red mirror finish. The lens transitions from black to red depending on the angle and the light and it is really nasty looking and almost impossible to get a good shot of for a picture. This is a great lens for the brightest sunny days. The lens is best for medium light to bright sunny conditions on the snow. This is not a good choice for cloudy foggy days.
